Why I voted for Donald Trump
I realize that I can only speak from my perspective which is not perhaps a common one, I don't see myself as representative of an average voter. There were certain things that made Donald Trump appealing, and it was purely based on how he was portrayed. It seems pretty obvious that Hillary was generally made immune from all sorts of criticism even when stories were coming out, and it appeared that the media took it up themselves to put out all the fires surrounding her and dismiss it. Now, Hillary might have been a great canditate, but the way in which the media was trying to sheild her made me almost knee-jerk suspicious.
There was a reluctance by many who supported her, to question any of her shortcomings, nor to vet has as proper presidential candidate, and in fact they attacked the character of anyone who did. The most neutral third party observer could be made to look like a Nazi or Clansman. Most notably, the "Bernie Bros" were attacked for "being rediculous" for applying their liberal principles to a candidate that is supposed to represent their views. What you had instead was a candidate who was canonized by a small elite group who mustn't be questioned.
The very nature of how this all worked in concert was made more obvious to me by the vociferous way in which they reacted to Trump. From the time I was in college, it took me a while to realize that certain soundbites were being used against mostly Republican candidates to make obvious to unsuspecting voters how loathsome or bigotted they were. You can defame someone unquestioned by replaying a clip, taking it out of context to mean something different or unexplained, and that would immediately require an aqquissence from the person who said it. With Donald Trump, this was in over drive, and the attempts to take him down went into high gear. Surprisingly he doubled downed, and was made stronger, and it nearly rendered the media useless.
Of course this has made his detractors hate him even more, and it has become a rage, but I think that for people like me, we've tried being polite, we've tried explaining everything at length, walking them through the logic, and they refuse to be convinced. For many people on the left, I see their minds like a series of cards stacked onto each other, each card being a belief that is sacred and not meant to be questioned, until a grand palace stands, swaying in the wind, always on the brink of collapse.
I don't know if this marks a serious change in the dissemination of the truth via the media, maybe the internet has changed it fundamentally. But being in America, I do find it strange that an atmosphere has been created where the views I hold are considered so vile, I dare not mention them in public.
